This is a rant about the media but it's not what you think. I turned 55 this month. I'm old enough to remember when the news was actually the news. When news and commentary were separate. We could tune in and occasionally yeah you'd have the anchor do a commentary but it was clearly noted as a commentary. It was their personal opinion and it was separate from the news they reported. Well up until probably the launch of Fox News in 1996. Happy 30th anniversary to those losers and trust me they're not the only bad ones. I'll get to CNN and MSNBC or whatever they call it now. MSNOW they call it. Okay Fox News was created by Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes, a Republican operative by the way not a true journalist, because they wanted to advance their own opinion. They took this old tired liberal bias in the media because they don't like anything that criticized their side. Forgetting of course is that the media also criticized the Democrats as well. But no they didn't want any criticism Republicans because heaven forbid you criticize those guys. So they brought put an entire news network on their claim they were telling a true story, the whole story which is bullcrap. Always has been always will be. Well if you ever notice about Fox News they have all the fancy sound effects and all of that all those fancy little digital effects and all this goes back 30 years. Up to that point CNN was your basically news network. You know they they told you the news. Now I will put this caveat. That was until 1994 when the whole OJ Simpson mess came along and to me that was when CNN started going downhill because they obsessed over the OJ Simpson trial to the point it it completely threw every other news story out the window. But I'll get to that one one of these days. Fox News completely changed news in this country. I remember when primetime news told you the news not just the anchors personal opinion about the news. Then Bill O'Reilly came along Sean Hannity and others came along and now it's like you get your news but you get the take on the news not the actual facts and this is something that really bugs me is that we have an entire couple of generations growing up who don't understand what factual news is all about. Now there's never been anything completely objective about the news. Subjectivity has always been there because it depends on how you write the thing how you how many people because there's not always two sides to every story. There's sometimes more more times more angles to every story. There's only so many words you can put in a column for a newspaper or how many minutes you can how many seconds you have for a report on television. And even today when you've got blogs when you've got YouTube videos you can go on and on and on about you don't have that anymore. The media today is about bringing in clicks bringing in ratings and all that it's not about telling you the truth it's about generating buzz making viral videos and all that and and if you've ever noticed the news it's they've always had these talking heads you know they analyze the news down to instead of giving you a wider breadth of this of the stories like they used to do 30 odd years ago before Fox News completely flipped the script. This is where the news has changed and not for the good because they'll take a few stories and they'll run them into the ground because that's that generates buzz that generates ratings and such. So that's my rant. American journalism especially television journalism has gone downhill for the last 30 years and it's because of Rupert Murdoch. Thank you.
